When will scholarship awards be distributed?

Decisions about scholarship recipients by the board of trustees are finalized in December, letters and awards will be sent out during late December-January and will either be mailed to you/your college or you can come and pick them up at the office. If you plan on picking up your letter and award we’d prefer if you called ahead, otherwise we may have already mailed them.

I received a letter without the award/check enclosed, why is that?

We do not mail the award/check to the student, we mail it directly to your college. The only exception to this is if a student comes into the office and picks up both their letter and the letter to their college which contains the award/check. Otherwise the letter that you receive is solely to inform you of the award you received and notify you it has been sent to your college.

My letter says something about “mailing a transcript”, what does that mean?

If you are a first year college student (freshman), the letter that you received may mention something about “sending your transcript”. This means that we need to directly receive an official transcript from your college before we can mail your award/check to them. Please have this sent to us as soon as possible and note that it needs to be an official transcript sent directly from your college to us.

Can I apply for a scholarship if I don’t live in Malden?

No, scholarships are only granted to Malden residents/those who are residing in Malden at the time of their high school education. Scholarship renewal does not require Malden residence at the time of renewal however the applicant would’ve had to reside in Malden for their high school education. Cases that don’t exactly fit these standards (i.e. an applicant has only resided in Malden for their senior year of high school, etc.) will be determined by the trustees on a case-by-case basis.
